1300 MEN GATHERED TO WORSHIP GOD AND GROW IN FAITH

HARRISBURG, PA---The 2006 Might Men of Valor (MVM) Conference held at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, November 3-5 again drew together men from throughout the United States and the world around the truths of the Bible. In its ninth year, many of the more than 1,300 attendees returned for another dose of inspiration, information, and encouragement that will enable them to grow deeper in their faith and live that faith out in their daily lives.

John Jenkins Sr., Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Landover, Maryland, says, “MVM impacts men’s lives, marriages, families, careers, and personal ministries as no other conference in the country. The evidence among attendees is so apparent that this year we chose to cancel our own men’s retreat and maximize our participation in MVM. There simply isn’t another national conference that offers this magnitude of speakers and presenters and yields such impressive results—measured in changed lives.”

This conference, which is nondenominational and crosses cultural and socioeconomic lines, provides such a rich experience that several congregations regularly send contingents of up to 200 men, knowing that these men will return to their home churches with changed lives. Testimonials about changed lives and renewed commitments come both from attendees and their families. For example, one attendee wrote: “When I came to last year’s conference my marriage was on the rocks and we were headed for divorce court…. After attending the praise and worship services and workshops, I asked God for a changed heart. I can truly say that I experienced a miracle.” While a woman wrote, “My heart is so grateful for the impact of MVM on the men in my life—my husband, dad, brother, and my adopted brother. For them the conference was a magnificent, life-changing and life-giving experience.”

Dr. Clifford Ashe III, founder and senior pastor of DaySpring Ministries in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and the founder of MVM says, “The uniqueness of this conference is found in the testimonies of changed lives from the men who attend, and in the access we provide to the presenters.” He notes that attendees “are able to talk one-on-one with the presenters and ask them anything. Our presenters are some of the most innovative Christian leaders in the country. Just think, you could be sitting across the table from them tapping their accumulated wisdom and knowledge for your needs.”

A sampling of speakers and titles of workshops for the 2006 conference included:
  • “Overcoming Life’s Testing Times” presented by Dr. Joel Gregory, publisher and CEO of ACP LLC, and founder of Gregory Ministries. Times of testing are handpicked by God to reveal the worst and/or to bring out the best in you. They are designed to show you what you can’t see, about yourself—your hidden strengths and potential.
  • Dr. Anthony Williams, founder and Pastor of Maranatha Christian Center, San Jose, California, spoke on “Be OPEN.” Most men are closed—closed to new ideas, new direction, new views, and new vision. God usually has to pry a man open to receive His blessings. Men need to adopt a philosophy of life that includes openness to God and His plans.
  • “Conflict Resolution” presented by Dr. John Jenkins Sr., Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Landover, Maryland, talked about the fact that all relationships will face challenges. This workshop identified ways to resolve conflicts within relationships.
  • Audree Ashe, founder and CEO of Victorious Christian Women’s Ministries and director of Women’s Ministry at DaySpring Ministries in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, presented “How to Make Your Wife Holler,” which told husbands how to take sex to another level.
Altogether, 14 seasoned speakers presented 24 dynamic workshops to complement the five general sessions scheduled throughout the weekend. In addition, this year’s praise and worship times were lead by Pastor Kerwin Manning of the Pasadena Church of God in California, and Dr. Frank E. Wilson, founder and Pastor of New Dawn Christian Village in Los Angeles. Prior to his ministry, Dr. Wilson was associated with Motown as a highly-successful writer and producer.

The first MVM Conference was held in November 1998 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, home of DaySpring Ministries. Starting with 300 attendees, by the year 2000, the conference had outgrown Harrisburg and moved to the Philadelphia area. Looking to the future, Pastor Ashe is investigating ways of expanding the conference to reach more men. He says, “When you know you are offering something that gives hope and changes lives, you want to reach as many people as possible.”

The 2007 MVM Conference is scheduled for November 9-11 at the Radisson Valley Forge Hotel, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Pastor Ashe’s plans for the MVM 10th Anniversary 2007 Conference include increasing attendance to 3,000 and providing a forum for younger men, ages 16-18, to learn from the older men about overcoming the problems that are so common today. In addition, Israel Houghton and New Breed will lead a special praise workshop along with the praise and worship segments of the 2007 conference.
